As one of Kerala's highest mountains, Agasthyakoodam has long been known as a birdwatcher's paradise and many people flock here to watch the exotic bird species. It can be seen from both near Neyyar dam and from Bonacaud. Agasthyakoodam is also known for its remarkable flora and fauna, especially some rare medicinal herbs. More than 2000 species of them, including lichens, orchids, mosses and ferns, have been recorded in the area. The peak is named after the sage Agastya and is a popular place for pilgrims.
